The Long Game of Plastic Obsession: My Fanhome Build So Far
Share
Let me tell you about my beautifully infuriating relationship with this subscription build from Fanhome.
It’s a bit like dating someone who sends you flowers once a month... but only includes one petal at a time.
Here’s the deal: every month, a small package of parts arrives, and I get to build a few pieces of a ridiculously detailed, oversized car model. Sounds fun, right? It is — until you hit the dark timeline of the build. The part where you’re hyped to continue... but the next crucial component is still en route from whatever warehouse doubles as a patience-testing facility.
For me, that emotional cliffhanger came courtesy of the windshield. Or more accurately — the not having of it. I was completely stalled for weeks, staring at a nearly complete chassis and whispering sweet threats to the mailman.
But rejoice! All the pieces have finally arrived. I’m back in business, and the build is flying again. I’m picking this blog up at stage 73 of 110, and it’s starting to feel very real. Big. Heavy. Shiny. Full of tiny, satisfying details that remind me why I signed up for this madness in the first place.
In the latest stages, I’ve tackled:
-
The inner fender (shoutout to small pieces that stab your thumbs),
-
A fully formed roll cage that looks ready for tiny action-figure mayhem,
-
The sleek outer fenders,
-
A surprisingly exciting gas cap (yes, really),
-
And a reflector that somehow makes me feel like I’m building a full-size car for ants.
From here, things should move quickly... assuming time cooperates and no screws fling themselves into the carpet abyss. So stay tuned for the final stretch. We're getting close.
And yes, I still love it. I just reserve the right to complain the entire way.
